““With
Linux, agency administrators can use the
principles of infrastructure
simplification to establish an integrated pool
of resources that can be dynamically
available to the entire consolidated
environment. This can absorb spikes in
demand. When the peak levels out -- and no
longer needs the resource – the
capacity is returned to the centralized reserve
pool that is available to all of the
processors.” -- Ron Gordon, IBM

Abstract: |
|
This report explores how new federal mandates from
Congress and the Office of Management and Budget
are affecting decisions federal IT professionals
make about the operating systems on which
mission critical applications in government are
run. It specifically looks at the role Linux
will play in the months and years to come, as
new technology-refresh initiatives seek to take
advantage of the technical, operational and
financial benefits that can be derived from its
Open Source roots. |
